Pakistan Floods Appeal 2022

In Pakistan, the ongoing rain spell has caused devastating floods in more than 100 districts across four provinces and Azad Jammu & Kashmir as well. During the last two months heavy rains badly affected the country. More than half of the country is under water. A “National Emergency” is declared by the Government of Pakistan.

Every year, Pakistan struggles during the June-August monsoon season but 2022 monsoon got worst for the country. The monsoon rainfall usually begins only in July, but this year, it started raining heavily in June, triggering floods.

According to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) more than 1000 people died and several injured, at least half of a million houses have been destroyed across the country. People are without shelter and sitting under the open sky with their families as the flood washed away everything.

Pakistan is going through its 8th cycle of monsoon; previously it had only three or four in a year and unfortunately another cycle is expected in September. Continued rain has made the relief operation very difficult.

Response
Government, Disaster Management Authorities, Civil and Military Establishment, NGOs and Relief Organizations are on the ground across the country to rescue the effected people. They are making efforts to bring people out of water surrounded areas to safe places and provide them food and shelter.

Proposed Intervention
These devastating floods are a big threat to the lives of hundreds and thousands who lost everything. Along with rescue and life-saving efforts, relief activities are also needed to help affectees. People in highly affected areas are in urgent need of food items to survive and Hygiene Kits to protect themselves from water-borne diseases.
In this situation, food packs and hygiene kits can be a source of survival for the devastated people.
